Stayed in the Collington room 28. Clean, beds were pretty comfy. Bathroom was a nice size and the shower had decent pressure. The little table and chairs were also nice to eat breakfast and lunch at. Beach access is right diagonally across the street. Ice cream within a few minutes walk. Close to lots of stores that are less than a 5 minute drive. Mini golf across the street. Sound access as well at Harvey soundside park. The "closet" was nice to have to store clothes, etc. Also loved the pull out drawer underneath the bench of the closet. Cute small pool and clean with lay out chairs. Great place. Definitely would come back. Thanks for a great stay Tarheel motel"

"I visit the Outer Banks often staying in a house for my extended stays but use the Tarheel for my short stays. The rooms are clean and easy walking distance to the beach. I like my car parked right by my door. This teacher also likes the budget friendly price."

"The outer banks is my favorite place to go for vacation, I make several trips a year , if I’m not staying in a cottage the Tar Heal is my go to for over 20 years .. it’s perfectly located , a very short walk to the public access , friendly staff , near all need groceries, outlets restaurants, in the heart of nags head . "This is a charming, cozy little motel! Other reviews about the outside with parking and lack of lighting are accurate but the room was clean, bed was fairly comfortable and I loved that there was a microwave, toaster oven and full size kitchen sink. The ac was amazing! You are just across the road from 2 public beach accesses and all the main road amenities are within close distance. I loved the keypad on the door! My only cons are very nitpicky. In the room I was in the toilet is very close to the vanity and I had to really crank the shower handle to get to the hot water (which there was plenty of and it fabulous). I honestly was afraid I would break it. I would definitely highly recommend to someone who wants a low key, chill, no fuss vibe. I would stay here again!"

"My partner, our dog, and I all traveled down from the northern East Coast for a short weekend trip to the Outer Banks. I don't think I have stayed in a nicer motel/hotel ever. The keyless entry was so convenient and made check in super quick. The staff here is responsive and so kind, we had to change our room to be pet friendly and it took less than 10 minutes to change our reservation with no fuss. The beach is not even a 5 minute walk away, and there are convenient hoses around the property to rinse off sand! Not only is the service great and location convenient, but the rooms are just so nice for the price. Everything in our room was clean and tidy when we arrived and not once was I under the impression the rooms were uncared for. The kitchenette was so nice and all appliances were new and clean. You really cannot beat the price for what you get, if we're ever back in Nags Head, we certainly will be staying with them again. One last note on just how good the service is here. My partner had accidentally left his Nintendo Switch in our room and we did not realize until after our 7 hour drive home. The staff at TarHeel retrieved it and safely shipped it back to us, again no fuss. Great stay, great service, and a bonus that our neighbors were super friendly as well! 5/5 stars all around."

"Location was my first priority. Second priority was my pups. Yay they take dogs. I had to get to Hatteras one day and the next day hit the road for Florida (95). This location was perfect for that. The motel itself was unexpectedly fabulous. Easy booking. I booked directly through their web-site. I loved that I can see each room and how it was decorated and had great names and I got to choose the room I wanted. We stayed in the Pompano Room. They provide great pics too. The rooms are true to their pics. The easiest check in. I got an email with the door code and was in. The room was spotless and decorated beautifully. The beds are comfy. It had all the amenities such as coffee, microwave, fridge, sink area and plenty of towels. The property is nicely maintained. A great bonus is The Dunes restaurant is in the attached parking lot. They have great breakfast with freshly baked biscuits. I was so impressed I did a lil digging into the history of this old salty. I wish the guys who chose to save her and fix her up with a beautiful remodel all the best in the future. It’s nice to see people care about the history and feel of the old time beach days. Well Done. 6 Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sorry I took photos from website since I failed to take pics while there. Rooms: Beautiful and CLEAN!!! "I stayed at the Tar Heel Motel for one night with my dog. I had a positive experience. The front office receptionist was easy and helpful to work with. My pet friendly room was super cute and cozy and even had a small area for me to work remotely on my computer. The room was clean and even featured a mini fridge, toaster, and Keurig. The price was affordable and a block from the beach. I would stay here again. Rooms: My room featured 2 double beds, desk with 2 chairs, mini fridge, microwave, toaster and Keurig. I was able to work remotely through the wireless internet. Safety: Each door has its own keypad and parking spot, making it easy to enter and exit. The outdoor area was well lit. Walkability: I traveled with my dog and was able to take him on a walk in the evening and morning because this motel has pedestrian sidewalks across the street and the beach."

"Stayed here in august 2023 with my mom and sister in law. At first we were like what did we book…it is a motel which we aren’t used to. However, when we walked into the room we were pleasantly surprised and pleased. It was super cute and clean. It was also right across the street from the beach. What else do you need.
